5. Oct 11, 2015 I just upgraded to Mac OS 10.11 (El Capitan), and it promptly rendered a number of pieces of software (all non-Apple) useless. One of them was the driver and interface for my Canon scanner. Canon (and it would appear, a number of companies) were caught flat-footed by the upgrade. Unfortunately, all I can do is wait for them to catch up.
